Bring it on!! (August 15, 2007)

We had to be to the hospital at 6 am on August 15th, 2007 for our c-section. Had to have a c-section due to a procedure I had done a couple of years earlier for a uterine problem. A planned c-section is so nice. No labor. Just easy. But I'm pretty sure I was having some laboring that night before - lots of contractions. I was 39 weeks pregnant.

A very ready Dad....bring it on!!!

Dad taking it all in....

Grandma Gleed more than ready to meet her new grandson!

And one never to miss an important family event - Uncle Richard

The Calvary arrives - Aunt Chris, Aunt Erin and Grandma Gleed

Damn good and ready to get this over with!

Cute little belly! So excited!

Wyatt's Room

This is what happens when you let a "couple of thirty somethings who have wanted a child for long time" decorate a nursery. They go crazy. Maybe one day we'll acutally let him use his room.

Finished Product - so fun!!

Color added......

Peaceful spot for breast-feeding and rocking...

Yes - the dresser came an even flatter box.......

Mom trying to help.....

The pain continues....

Matt NOT in his element....

Seriously - the crib comes in a flat box? You're kidding......

A Little Warm-up (August 15, 2007)

Well everyone, the big day is finally here and I'm worse than a kid on Christmas Eve. This page is intended to commemorate the birth and life of Wyatt Mathew Thornton, Son of Mathew L Thornton and Lisa Gleed-Thornton of Draper Utah. This little man is our dream come true.

I don't think everyone has had the opportunity to see these pictures of my beautiful, blushing and very gravid bride. Enjoy.

And Finally.....My wife, PREGNANT, BAREFOOT and IN THE KITCHEN - where she belongs!!

Role of Bridesmaid for Yvonne Potter - 9 months pregnant (5 days before c-section)

Cottonwood Hospital ER Baby Shower - July 2007 (8 months)....Isn't she lovely?

Thornton Family Baby Shower - July 2007

Thanks to Everyone (August 15th, 2007)

Lisa and I want to make sure everyone who gave their support, friendship, understanding, humor and expertise toward our attainment of this wonderful goal.

Dr. Guy Ringler, without your brilliance this would have never been possible.
Dr. Bronte Stone, the best damn embryologist on the planet (and a decent rider).
Dr. Phillip Werthman, for your patience and prudence.

The entire staff at CALFERT, truly a world class organization.

To Tom Reasor and Kevin Considine, John Little. Without your support at work, we could have never held it together and gotten through.

To all our friends who offered support and shared experiences and concern. Melinda and Dave Freiss, Jane Powers, Mansoor Emam, Gennie Mulqueen, Terry Heinrich, Kevin and Jen Considine, Al Giesler and Susan Katz, Andrew Foulger, the Maliheh Free Clinic staff, the Cottonwood ER staff and all the great people at eBay.

Finally and always the most important, thank you to our families. Without you, we would not be who we are. We are thrilled and honored to be adding a member to such a special group.

With love and sincerity,

Matt and Lisa

California Fertility Partners

When we were first referred to California Fertility Partners by an embryologist in Utah, it felt so over-whelming. We had to go all the way to Los Angeles? Why did we have to go through this? Why was it so hard to become parents when people do it everyday? People who don't want to do it easily become parents. But making that first phone call and that first trip to Los Angeles changed our lives. I don't think we would've ever gotten pregnant here in Utah. These doctors at California Fertility Partners were world-class. A step above. For several years, our vacations were ~ 2 week trips to Los Angeles for rounds of In Vitro. We would have a lot of down-time waiting for the ovaries to be ready to be harvested and then between the retrieval and the implantation. We took advantage. Things we did during those LA trips: Visit family in San Diego, Jay Leno Show, Santa Monica (usually where we stayed), 3rd-Street Promenade, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Pacific Coast Highway, Paradise Cove Cafe, Dukes in Malibu, Santa Barbara, Solvang, wine-tasting trips, lots of different restaurants. Just fun, fun stuff. We got so we preferred to do some of our follow ups there instead of trying to find somewhere here in Utah to do our ultra sounds. We would hop the 6 am flight to LA, rent a fun car, get breakfast (usually out our favorite spot "The Lazy Daisy" across the street from the clinic), see Dr Ringler, go shopping, catch some lunch, drive the coast, enjoy the ocean and sun and then head back to LAX to catch a late flight. We had so much fun. We really learned to love that area. Loved, loved loved Santa Monica. Too bad it is so expensive to live there. It would be fun to try it out for a while....as long as you could work in Santa Monica as well. Rule about living in the LA area. Live where you work - if you can. Avoid the traffic. The weather is so very amazing down there....you can see why so many people live there. Its just awesome.

Here are some fun pictures:

11818 Wilshire Bldvd, Los Angeles, CA Dr Guy Ringler - our infertility specialist. He was brilliant and so great to work with. This facility was so professional and so appreciative of us - their patients. So different than what we experienced here in Utah. (Actually taken in 2005 - Lisa with Kathy, our case manager, and Dr Ringler) Primo Embryologist - Dr Bronte Stone and Matt!!

(He was awesome - he was from New Zealand and we always joked about our son coming out and speaking with an accent)

The infamous procedure room where it all happened!! The making of parents!!

Our Story of Wyatt Begins

Matt and I spent much of our 30's (ages) and much of our $$$ trying to become parents (I often say we already spent Wyatt's college fund before he was born). We saw many specialists, went through many appointments, procedures and heartaches. As the next few posts will capture - the thrill and awe of finally becoming parents was indescribable and to this day hard to believe. And we both feel we will never be able express enough thanks to those who helped us reach our goal of becoming parents and sharing our lives with a special little person. Matt captured a lot of this in another blog (Mathew-Wyattsroom.blogspot.com) for which we lost access to because of email change and password issues. I've created another and am planning on just transferring over what we started to capture on that blog. We were really good at first......we were. :)

Ok...before I can move on....

I couldn't stand it. I wanted a wedding photo of us here while we are at the beginning. All I could do for now is take a picture of a portrait. And it looks it.... But here we are on September 23rd, 1999. Garden City, UT. A beautiful autumn day. Lots of sunshine (we are huge fans of sunshine). We got married at Harbor Village - overlooking beautiful Bear Lake (where I grew up and where Matt spent a lot of time as a child). We got married by the mayor of Garden City. We had just immediate family with us. It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony.
